PURWOKERTO – The concept of “Smart City” is no stranger to the ears of the citizen and is now beginning to be widely applied in the cities of Indonesia. Telkom Institute of Technology (IT Telkom) Purwokerto works with Diskominfo (Department of Communication and Informatics) to realize Purwokerto as a smart city. One form of IT Telkom involvement is by organizing a National Seminar entitled “Improving Quality of Community Life through Smart City Implementation” which was held on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at Dominic Hotel, Purwokerto. It aimed to maneuver “Mendoan” city to be a smart city with a city order that allows people to obtain information quickly and can reduce traffic jam and improve the security of citizens.
The seminar attended by IT Telkom students and was expected to be a motivation for young people to develop the technology to the community at large. “being aware of the development of the current era is necessary so as not to be left behind by other cities, it can be done by applying this smart city concept. People with any skills or any positions must have the ability to use IT. My wish, IT Telkom campus can be a driver for people to realize the smart city,” said the Rector of IT Telkom, Dr. Ali Rokhman, M.Sc.
This National Seminar presented three speakers: the lecturer of Bandung Institute of Technology, Dr. I Gusti Bagus Bagaskara Nugraha; Head of E-Government Diskominfo Kabupaten Banyumas, Endah Sulistyawati, S. Sos; and the Manager of Business, Government & Enterprise Service PT. Telkom, Witel Purwokerto Subiarto. At one session, Dr. I Gusti Bagus Bagaskara Nugraha said that the harmony between society and government is needed to guarantee the success of the smart city.
The cooperation between IT Telkom and Diskominfo is expected to facilitate the process of smart city establishment in Purwokerto. As a campus with technology-based, IT Telkom is ready to contribute by making a positive breakthrough for technological progress in Purwokerto.
